dathouse, is an attempt of feeble people to allow a loving, merciful, almighty, and mysterious GOD to live in and through us. the “dat” stands for 3 Greek words that remind us of: service, love, and humility. we started out as some people living together, “in a rougher” hood, setting out to love our neighbors and share Jesus more by action than word. we know way too many folks are tired of hearing about it, and want to know what its like lived out and to see the spirit at work in people. we are mess ups, we just try to own it, declare it as ourselves, as it is, and head towards a little less of ourselves and to a little more Jesus. i guess it could feed people’s hang ups with Jesus, but the more we approach folks with humility and love, the more we think it will give them hope, and rather attract them to him. we have been humbled and learned so much from the people around us. we have seen a lot of things that could, and at times have discouraged us, BUT we know the hope in Jesus! we know that his kingdom looks different from expected and even hopeless… we know of his sacrificial love, we know the reality of RESURRECTION!!!! we are here, and we plan on loving the HELL out of people as Jesus has done the same for us. love is his way, and we want to be in it.
Luke 6:27-36 BUT i say to you WHO HEAR, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also, and whoever takes your coat, do not with hold your shirt from him either. give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. treat others the same way you want them to treat you. if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? FOR EVEN SINNERS LOVE THOSE WHO LOVE THEM. if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? for even sinners do the same. if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. BUT YOU LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, AND DO GOOD, AND LEND, EXPECTING NOTHING IN RETURN; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the most high, for he himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. BE MERCIFUL, JUST AS YOUR FATHER IS MERCIFUL.
we have hope cause we know that god loved us while we hated him. we have hope cause his love has changed us, and we know that his love can change others. we have hope cause he is in and with us for the journey. he himself said in the scripture, “for even sinners love those who love them”. we easily view that as only a point that even “bad” people treat their friends well, who treat them well. maybe if we treat everyone well, even “bad” people, they will be won over by love! maybe we are all “sinners or bad people”, and maybe if we each make it our purpose to love, those we love, will do the same? maybe… regardless we will love, cause that is what we have heard, seen, and experienced in God.
